Overview
Continue is the open-source AI code agent for VS Code. It builds a custom assistant from composable 'blocks' — models, rules, context providers, docs, prompts, data, and MCP servers — defined in config.yaml and synced from hub.continue.dev. Security surface: it can run MCP servers (shell/tool access) in agent mode and applies rules injected into every request.
